Vengeance A Lew Fonesca Novel (Audible Audio Edition) Stuart M Kaminsky Joe Barrett Phoenix Books Books
Alert and disclaimer--I love Stuart Kaminsky in pretty much all his forms. The Fonesca series is very readable, engaging, with great memorable characters and gripping plot lines. The dialogue is clever, funny and insightful, and you probably know or have met some or maybe all of these characters at one time or another. Lew Fonesca drifts, plods, and continues through what is left of his life after the tragic traffic death of his wife, and yet gets involved with, beholding to, and even uses, strangers who then become integral parts of his life. He--and they--often are putting their lives at risk to right wrongs, reveal truth, and save the vulnerable clients he serves. His best friend Ames, a relic of idealism housed in an aging cowboy body, an octogenarian psych therapist who seems to enjoy the sessions as much as he seeks to not address his issues, a tough teen mother getting out of trouble and into higher education, and a cursing, boozy rich widow who loves country music and any challenge that comes her way. Not to mention an overwhelmed single mother social worker who may or may not be a real romance prospect, or one of her clients to whom Lew becomes a sort of "big brother/mentor", which means the kid gets shot at and thinks it's cool. Always a twist or two of plot, always a resolution, though maybe not a satisfying one; just like real life.Product details

Vengeance A Lew Fonesca Novel (Audible Audio Edition) Stuart M Kaminsky Joe Barrett Phoenix Books Books Reviews
"Vengeance" is the first book in the series of "Lew Fonesca Series" written by the late Stuart M. Kaminsky. I am excited to read about a detective - investigator of sorts that is not a washed up alcoholic. Don't be distacted by the editing errors - keep moving you will ride the roller coaster of emotions right along with Lew. I found this book on ebook from my online library loan and did my research. I am a huge fan of audio-books & when I like a book on kindle I will go back start over with the audiobook reading along. The narrator (Scott Brick) is excellent and breathes life into the character of Lew.
Lew Fonesca's wife, Kathryn died over 3 years ago in a car accident. He used to work for the state attorney's office in Cook County, Illinois - Investigations. Overcome with grief, Lew started driving from Chicago and ended up in Sarasota, Florida when car is broke down and stayed. He began picking up process serving & investigating jobs from lawyers that kept him in business. Soon he opened up a small office where he also lives & started taking on clients. Then he made a friend Ames McKinney - under unusual circumstances. Ames comes in handy especially in some sticky investigating situations.
The story evolves when Lew finds a woman in his office and her name is Beryl Tree. She has bruises on her face and she is looking for her 14 year old daughter. Lew can smell a lie a mile away and soon uncovers the tragedy of a child molester. He has to take this case - just because. Before long Lew has another client Carl Sebastian supposedly looking for his wife that has left him. Nothing is simple. Lew works to unravel the complicated case and takes us on a roller coaster ride.
To add spice to the stories, Lew served papers to Ann Horowitz, PhD. for a court appearance & realized that she could him cope with his depression. He makes appointments to basically discuss his weird dreams trying to unravel his depression.
Lew is following leads on the runaway daughter of Beryl Tree when he meets a case worker with the Children's Services of Sarasota - Sara (Sally) Porovsky. Before he realize what he is doing he opens up his mouth & for two minutes he spews in fast forward his criteria for a good date. Sara is flabbergasted when she realizes that he is asking her out to dinner. It is a beginning.
Come along for the ride as Lew solves the case of the runaway child, runaway wife, and a couple of murders, comes out of his depression & starts dating.
no summary -- other reviewers have done a good job recapping the action.
Kaminsky has created another series with yet another entertaining main character -- Lew Fonesca -- who operates in a realistic setting and solves well-plotted mysteries. So far, Lew always finds the solution(s) before I do.
That's why I keep reading the novels and recommending them.
This is the first Fonesca mystery. Start here.
This was a present to someone else outside my family. He was in the middle of reading this book and could not get to the other copy so I ordered this one for him to finish the book
This book was ok put had I not lived in Sarasota I would not have finished it
because it was a little slow moving for me.
This was a good storie to listen to, a little different than most but still thrilling to listen to. If you like stories on tape or disk you will also like this one as well.
So sorry to learn this gifted author has passed away. This is the first of six books set in Sarasota and featuring an interesting cast of characters. I have ordered all six and am now buying duplicates to give to my Sarasota friends.
